  1. they want poor people to die

  2. it is more expensive to produce ,

with chemicals one works with kilos ,

with organics one works with tons of compost

    bigger equipment and more labor

    .

Grow stuff your self that is the cheapest ,

and you will realize why people switched to chemical farming because it is easier,

Pure Organic farming is a lot of work .

    Especially in the beginning.

You want something better ,that is cheaper

Ask Santa Claus or the easter bunny

    loss of potable water .

    climate change

    and the production of Ethanol

Start growing yourself ,that is the solution ,

    even in a small way

  3. the thing is that most farmers dont bother to grow organically. also most farmers stopping their regular crops and are growing corn because it can be burned into ethanol. im sure that if farmers were smart and started organically growing more crops, then the prices would lower. also the other thing they should start growing more is wheat and other grains because they are in such big demand right now. hope this helps!

  4. They could, but people are sold on the idea that organic foods are the way to do so the stores are taking advantage of it and charging  more for them. It's only the dollar that means anything to some folks.

  5. its more expensive to produce.  The yield per acre of organic crops is less than traditional.

  6. I have asked myself the same question, because I figured that if they are not paying for the pesticides then they must be seaming some money. It even makes you doubt about the legitimacy of their product or if its just a marketing strategy

  7. they can but people are willing to pay extra. Good marketing on behalf of the organic growers

  8. orgainic is harder to produce because in non-organic we use pesticides and other stuff to make it grow more

  9. Affordible food is not = to healthy food. The powers to be have seen to this. NY has finally stood against this with the abolishment of trans fatty oils utilized for fried foods in the resteruant industry. Trans fats still permiate the food production and supply industry, and are prevelant in every foodstore in america! The people behind these choices simply care more for thier investments than they do for human life. This american monstrosity has me lined up to fire along a long line of revolutionaries at the heads of the shameless! I count at least 20 rounds to expend! I make at least 40 attempts at resoluting sorrowful exemptions!

  10. You, like many good people, do not understand ecomomics

I like organic food too, by the way

The reason it is priced at what it is is because thats how much people will pay for it- has nothing to do with production cost

If organic foods were priced soley by production cost- it would actually be cheaper than huge supermarket food growers

Many times organic food are cheaper to grow - but not necessarly to harvest and transpsort

  11. First of all organic produce prices are not rising nearly as quickly as chemically produced produce and the last time I went shopping found organic bananas only 3¢ a pound more, broccoli was the same price as were carrots and celery.

Soon (like by this summer organic produce will likely be a bit cheaper than chemically produced fruits and veggies)

Organic foods are not subsidized by the USDA and the 100 billion dollar subsidy that meat/dairy/eggs/corn/soy gets keeps our grain based/processed food artificially cheap. if organic and non organic produce were subsidized to even 10% of that figure prices would be far lower.

Than there is the fact there are not enough certified organic acres to cover the demand.

As far as produce is concerned organic farms generally outproduce chemically managed farms by about 50% to 300%. When we talk grains they are about even, though organic farms outproduce chemically managed farms by 30% to 50% during drought years.

On the livestock front, organic farms that humanely manage their livestock cannot compete with factory farms as it takes more room to pasture a pig than to have the pigs in crates. organic farms feed a natural diet of generally pasture and hay (most livestock except for poultry do not eat grain naturally) which takes up a lot more space than high protein grain based feeds and the by-products (literally floor scrapings from livestock barns and slaughterhouses, gum wrappers, cardboard, old candy, etc.. ) they feed factory farmed livestock (they get the cheapest forms of protien found).

So with livestock the price is high because it is more time consuming, basic costs are more and the meat is far above factory farmed meat in quality, nutrition and taste.

People should be raising as much of their own food as they can, even if it is just a pot of tomatoes and a basil plant. That is the best way to get the cheapest and freshest food possible. next is buy direct from the farmer at a farmers market or vis a CSA. This option is never as expensive as buying organic produce at the grocery store.

  12. I think it is a matter of supply and demand more than anything.  There is just a lot less organic food available and it doesn't enjoy the economies of large scale production or marketing that non organic does.
