Why can't we call fish n chips chips n fish? Isn't i t the same? I mean,they're both on a same plate?

What's the main attraction on the plate?  Is it the fish, or the chips.  If it's the chips for you, then don't bother getting the fish since you're only there for the fried potatoes.  It's like saying, why don't we say "toast and eggs", instead of "eggs and toast?"  The protein on the plate makes the meal, so to speak.

I agree that it should be called "Chips n Fish" because normally there are more chips than fish on the "Fish n Chips" plate.

because the fish is the main item on the plate so you also list that item first.
