Why can't we conserve freshwater by creating a system of using seawater for toilets and bathing?

You would think that bathing in salt water would be good for your skin as well. Since desalinization is so expensive, can't we use pipes from the sea( still treat the water of course)?

Since the ocean levels are rising, and our sources of fresh, usable water are being depleted, it seems obvious that we need to make use of the excess sea water somehow.

It wouldn't be worth the effort to pump seawater inland just for bathing.

Not only would there be logistical problems getting the water to homes/businesses/whatever--as already mentioned...

There is the issue of what to do with the waste water after...  Return it straight to the sea/ocean as is--possibly with pollutants? Set up a whole new treatment facility for the salt water?  Certainly you cannot mix it with municipal fresh water--it would make our ground, rivers and drinking water saline which is bad.

Collection of rain water would be much more practical.

I have heard, that after a period of time, when salt water is used for bathing, you don't get to clean.

I don't think you will get very clean washing with salt water.

Ignoring the health arguments about sea water, you have a major problem of logistics.

How do you get sea water into every house, business, etc in the country, or even in any one town?   You would have to put in an entire new water system, and new plumbing in every home.

Just not practical or cost effective.
