  1. you cant force the government to do what private industry should do. government by law is not allowed to compete in the private sector. if you want more alternative energy cars on the road, you need to get private industry to build the cars, and build the infrastructure to support the cars, and then get the people to buy the cars. understand that up until the late 1920's, we had electric cars, steam powered cars, ethanol powered cars, as well as gas powered cars. i believe there were even experiments with hydrogen powered cars. the reason gasoline took off as the fuel source of choice is because the oil industry at the time invested in the infrastructure to support gasoline powered automobiles, and has done so for more than 100 years. alternative forms of energy have a lot of catching up to do, and it wont happen overnight, regardless of what the government or the people want.

you however can help, buy a gas station, and start investing in alternative forms of energy, and help build cars that use those alternate forms of energy. get enough people to help, and things will start rolling along reasonably quickly. it only took 15 years to get diesel sold at most gas stations around the country. the same thing can happen with alternative energy, but we need to get the people active in making these changes.

  2. Why should the government be involved in the transition?

If the cost of gasoline is high enough, people will switch to alternatives without being told.  If a government mandates a change, it will cause artificial pressures in the economy and ultimately cost more than allowing people to make their own decisions.

Read "Economics in One Lesson" by Henry Hazlitt.  You will begin to understand basic economic concepts, including the choice among fuels.  I assume you are asking questions because you want to understand things and acquire the knowledge to make your life better.  Go to the source. Learn from the experts.  Study the fundamentals.  Read that book and the others on my list.  Get the skills and knowledge to find your answers and make your world better.

  3. why does every one want the govt to do something...as far as i can see they just create a huge bureaucracy and s***w up.

  4. Forcing the government to make changes like you are pushing is like getting the tail to wag the dog.

If the government were responsible for development and technical innovation they would have commissioned Henry Ford to build a better horse.
