Labour Day in the fashion world is like the cut off point for summer. So as winter begins you wear dark colours as opposed to bright colours worn in summertime. Its a very old fashioned rule though and generally isn't followed today.

That's one of those old fashion "rules" that has been busted in the last several years. There are many "winter whites" that are totally appropriate to wear in the colder months!
