Question:

Why can't you make a U-turn anywhere on the PA turnpike?

If you miss your exit on the PA turnpike, you cannot make a U-turn until the next exit, which may be 20 miles down the road. Even the service plazas are set up to prevent you from changing direction. Why is this? Why does the PA turnpike commission want me to go 40 miles out of my way if I miss my exit or if my exit was closed due to flooding or an accident?

  1. That is what happens whe you enter a limited acess highway.  at one time there used to be u-turn spots for emergency vehicles only but due to people ignoring those signs and making ILLEGAL uturns which in turned caused fatal accidents they were closed off.
