  1. It's illegal...???

to wear camouflage pants in some places. But where?

While you may think they're fashionable, in some countries, such as Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Madagascar, the wearing of military style clothing can be misunderstood by authorities and result in detention.

  2. Camouflage is ILLEGAL in Jamaica. Over the years there have been isolated cases of groups of armed men imitating both police and soldiers by wearing similar uniforms. They would set up fake roadblocks and in the most violent communities they have conducted fake 'police raids' to confuse their enemies. These relatively small bands of criminals are almost para-military in thier conduct.

Such roadblocks and other similar actions are no longer that frequent.

Nowadays citizens and tourists can get away with wearing a single camoflage item as a part of an outfit that looks OBVIOUSLY non-military.

Basically, the law speaks to 'military surplus items', 'imitation uniforms' and other terms. A camouflage mini-skirt wouldnt really qualify. You wouldnt be mistaken for a soldier or policewoman.

The police tend to turn a blind eye in cases that dont stand out too much. If however, you were held with an illegal firearm while wearing camouflage, they would add an additional criminal charge for the clothing. If you were assualting a person the result could be the same.

If you where a tailor (or dressmaker) making miniskirts, and were held with TONS of camoflage and a few rounds of ammunition, or perhaps any type of illegal narcotics (even marijuana) you would be in REAL trouble. The law woudl assume that you could be supplying clothing (other than mini-skirts) to criminals, since you have 'dangerous' raw material.

  3. I dont know about other islands, but in PR its not illegal, its more of a fashion that are even sold in regular clothes, like the US.
