Question:

Why can I do for a cat who vomits regularly?

We have tried hairball formulas and sensitive stomach formulas (and of course, regular cat food) but this cat just can't keep his food down. We have tried feeding him his daily amount all at once or breaking it into smaller meals (so he can graze). I am at a loss and it is getting to where he is losing weight.

  1. Get some "ACIDOPHILUS"  you can buy it at health food stores or grocery stores (it is the good bacteria in your intestines).  Take a pinch of it and put it on the food.   Yougert has this in it but not the same amout it might take.

You also have to deal with hairballs.  Vasaline works for that.

If this does not help then you are going to have to take it to the VET.

    good luck

  2. Your cat needs to see a vet for a complete check up.  Call and schedule an appointment today, he's going downhill and needs treatment as soon as possible.

    Good Luck!

  3. Have you tried taking him to a vet ?

I had one that did this and it turned out that he had a blockage at the entrance to his stomach.

  4. Have you looked at his teeth? My cat was having a similar problem because we'd give her dry food but she had an overbite so it was difficult for her to chew her food and she'd often vomit it all back up and it wasn't a surprise that when she did I found out she had to swallow it all whole.

To check for an overbite gently just pull his bottom and upper lips apart in the front. If the bottom row of teeth is in front of the top row then your cat has an overbite.

If an overbite is the problem then try feeding him wet cat food, preferably ones that aren't cut into chunks and shredded and such and make sure it's really smooth. (I avoid Friskies because they have so many different types of ways to cut the food and my cat can't eat most of the types of cuts. Try Special Kitty.)

If this isn't the problem then take him to the vet to get checked for allergy problems and such.

  5. small portions, and yes bella is right, smear some soft butter around their mouth, the cat will l**k it off and it is packed with calories.

Force feeding chicken broth can help if the cat is too weak.

If you use one of those flea products, wash the cat with a dilute mild shampoo to help get rid of those poisons.

  6. I have a female Calico Van and she had the same problem.  We tried every kind of cat food and ended up having to buy organic dry food without milk.  (Sometimes cats can be lactose intolerant like humans.)  We bought Newman's Own and it actually kept the vomiting of food to a minimum, but she still has the occasional hairball.

If that doesn't work, take your cat to the vet, it may be something more serious like a stomach blockage.

  7. GO TO THE VET!!!

In the meantime, comb him regularly to get rid of as much hair as possible, make sure he has plenty of water and stop changing his food. I keep my cat on the same food all the time now (brand and type, not flavour) as he gets ill every time he's fed anything different.

You can also try getting some valerian teabags.  Give the teabag to the cat, in it's individual sachet and just let him chill. It's a natural treat which really relaxes your cat which might make his whole digestion better.

  8. Try some unspiced pumpkin. You can buy it at your local grocery store. Make sure it's unspiced so it's pure. And you cat will love it and it will help him with his vomiting situation. GL

  9. take it to the vet

  10. put it out of it's misery, it's the kindest thing

  11. I suspect food allergies.  This is very hard to diagnose in cats, and many vets tend to be a bit clueless when it comes to food allergies.

Common food allergies include corn, wheat, soy, rice, any grain product.  Pork and Beef will also trigger allergies in cats.  All of these products are common ingredients in cat food.  It is used as a filler, and as a way to make the protein content higher than it actually is.

Switch to a grain free diet, Evo is good, Natures Variety, and Wellness are all good.  Also, a wet diet is better than a dry diet.  Again, look for grain free products.  For a good primer on cat food, and a list of good foods, check out:  http://www.catinfo.org/commercialcannedf...

  12. try some butter... that helps them with the hair balls... but you should consult your vet

  13. Your cat may have an allergy to the flavor of cat food.  I had 3 cats who were all allergic to fish.

If he is having trouble eating and is losing weight, you need to take your cat to the vet...or at the very least, consult your local pet store or humane society for more ideas.
