Why can I not play me recorded dvd's in other players?

I record my videos on to a blank dvd-r and it plays on my recorder, but when I try to play them on other players (several I tried) it will not play. why is this?

  1. Some players (especially older ones) just are not capable of reading personally recorded CDs and DVDs. If you have a CD or DVD player that says CD-RW or DVD-RW Playback... then those should play most personally recorded CDs and DVDs.


  2. There's two incompatible DVD recordable formats: DVD-R and DVD+R.  It's possible that your other player only works on +R discs.

  3. IF you have the correct dvd according to your manual you have not gone through the "finalization" process.  You must do this to be able to watch on players other than your recorder.  Go back to your instruction book.
