Why can a black person be proud of their race and a white person can't?

if you stick on the music channels you forever hear black musicians saying 'black this black that' talking about how they are proud to be black.

yet if a white person came on and made a song about how they are proud to be white it would be deemed as racist, why is that?

and the reason is because black people have been through slavery, racism, lynching, etc

so we've kind of risen from the ashes

those songs are either about that or theyre those stupid ones about how theyre from the ghetto and whatever

im sorry but what have white people come through, exactly?? noones ever done anything to them and theyve always had the upper hand in every situation

That is a Fair question . I think that white people have been made to feel that way by being over sensitive to accusations of their misdeeds .They are never given credit for their contribution to the world. The fact is that almost every race of people have been just as guilty of such misdeeds.

White people can & should B proud of their race.  I think the issue lies N, as I am sure U R aware, the history of a black person as compared 2 the history of a white person.  There was never a time when white people believed/were made 2 believe/were made 2 act like they believed, that they should not B proud.  If U R implying, that, that time is now, I would have 2 imagine its an individual conscience issue...knowing your history & present & being proud, or not, of what it is that U honestly know.

You are fairly underexposed. In the USA (and not in other countries) "black" is a form of cultural expression. If you ever listened to genres like country-western, blue-grass, polka, classical, opera and other forms of music that have deep cultural roots in Europe, you would most certainly hear artists expressing pride in their culture.

If pop-rock musicians don't express cultural pride in their music, it's because they're not proud of their music and that's most likely because they know it's c**p.

From what i've seen from the people in this country,when black people speak of pride it's nothing more than being proud of how far black people have come an dwhat they have accomplished..

For some reason it seems that white people can't do anything regarding pride without it turning into some sort of white superiority thing.

I've seen groups that focus on certain heritages or races.I've known of black cultural or heritage groups that celebrate the history of black people and in these groups they don't stop anyone that isn't black from attending.On the other hand i have yet to see a group focused on white people and history that did not try to keep anyone that wasn't white from attending.

See the difference.Talk of black pride can be done with out the need to put down other races.Talk of white pride always turns into a race bashing party.

People often highlight their "pride" as a reaction to being oppressed. It's a way of turning a negative (being oppressed) into a positive. After centuries of being enslaved and still now enduring racism, Black people rightfully should feel and express pride in themselves.

That said, why *would* whites feel pride?

u know wot, i have been asking myself the same question for years.  it's like the MOBO awards if there was MOWO awards people wouldn't be too happy.  i'm defo not racist in the slightest but i feel i can't say I'm proud to be white because it seems to come across as being racist!

And I would answer in the same way. How can you _possibly_ be proud of something you had nothing to do with? You can be glad about it, but not proud of it.

why is this question on here so much?  it's like daily.  make your point.  you can be proud of being white.  it's stupid, but you can be stupid if you like.  it's stupid for black people to be proud of being black as well.  

pride is for accomplishments.  how is it you achieved whiteness or blackness?  how can you be so proud of getting that done?

i'm proud to have raised intelligent, loving children.  i'm proud of my resourcefulness, i'm proud of my work. i'm proud that i stopped smoking.  i'm proud that i dropped 60 lbs.  i certainly wouldn't say i'm proud of being 5'4".  i had nothing to do with that.
