Why would a swimming pool feel warming at night than in the daylight hours?

Is it because water doesn't release much energy?

  1. Most of the other answers covered it well.

I would like to add that at night the air is cooler, so the water feels warmer than it diid when the sun was warming You up, too.

  2. some all the swimmers than were in it during the day that took a leak in it

  3. Water has a high heat capacity, meaning that on a molecular level H2O is able to absorb a wide range of heat energy without undergoing phase change. Further more the heat that is absorbed can be held longer. Through out the day the solar energy is constantly being absorbed by the pool. Come night that stored energy starts to radiate off of it, but air which has a much smaller heat capacity than water will cool down faster. So, unlike in the middle of the day the temperature difference is larger at night making the pool feel warmer than the compared air. The pool isn't warmer the temperature difference is just larger. This is especially true the lower the humidity is in the area and the earlier it is in the night.

  4. hi, water has the characteristics of a fast specific heat. this means its a slow/ slow thing. Meaning it heats slow and cools slow. So it says hot for a long time (being the night) and cools a long time during the day.So basically during the day water is heating up and reflecting water but in the afternoon its re-radiating energy so it absorbs it. THis is why a swimming pool is warmer at night.

  5. The simple answer is this...  If your Pool water is 78 degrees.  In the daytime with a high of 90, its going to feel cooler, because the air temperature outside is warmer than the water.

However, at night time when the temperate dips to 70, the water is now warmer than the air temperature, and therefore feels warmer, even though it was the same temperature 6 or 12 hours previous when it felt cool.

This is just a rough comparison to show you how this works.  temperatures could be anything, But you need to have a warmer daytime air temperature than the temp of the pool water, and at night you need a cooler air temp to have a warming sensation.
