  1. Because Canada's hockey players are the best

  2. This just might jinx it.

  3. Well... I would have to say...

BECAUSE THERE HAVEN'T BEEN MANY EUROPEAN CAPTAINS UNTIL THE LAST FEW YEARS.

Do you know why, because now the NHL is getting the great Europeans in their prime.  It's really just a matter of odds.  With WAY more Canadians in the NHL up until the '90s, its kind of easy to see why.  Everyone knows it too.  If you really think Crosby has that much of an effect as captain, I think you are a moron.  Sure he leads on the ice, and probably says his share in the lockerroom, but if I was in that lockerroom and had the choice to listen to Crosby or Roberts... No question I would listen to Roberts.

So tell me this... if you were about to play the biggest game of your life right now... who would you rather get a pep talk from... Sidney Crosby or Nicklas Lidstrom.

Yeah, that's what I thought.  And don't think for a second any real person would say Crosby.  Captains are not only their because they are one of the best players, but because they have the leadership and EXPERIENCE.  Don't get me wrong...What Pittsburgh is doing, making Crosby the captain, is the right choice.  What it is doing is forcing him to be the leader he needs to be, and that is a good thing.  But you do know that guys like Gary Roberts are right there helping him along, because no matter how good you are, you don't have the experience at 20 years old to lead an NHL team in the lockerroom by yourself.
