Why can my set top box get a channel that my inbuilt digital tuner can't?

Question

I got a set top box to run my dvd recorder off and since i set it up, I can't get win tv on the tv. the funny thing is that i can still get it when i go through the set top box! any ideas? I have checked cables etc. and the tv and set top box are both hooked to the same aerial with a splitter.

I think it has a chip that allows a restricted channel the other unit may not have access to.
