Why can people like aafia siddiqui go to MIT with out a background check?

Why would MIT do a full background check on their students? It's only necessary to do background checks if you're privy to classified information.

Money talks.And who would do a background check on that pretty lady when she was younger.Right family and the money will get you in.Your high school transcript is a background check within its self.They verify that stuff.

But im sure now that most universities will require extensive background checks.

Background checks are not required of any student seeking to enter college.  Nor should they be - a university is not generally a place where one has access to classified information.

And unless I have my dates wrong, she entered MIT in 1992, which was well before any of this nonsense started.  Has she gone through a background check in 1992, it would have uncovered nothing.
