  1. The IOC determines who can compete in each sport, but the determination is not uniform across all sports.  Each sport has a separate governing body within the IOC that determines the rules for that sport.  That is also why gymnasts are limited to those aged 16 or over, while that limit is not necessarily imposed on all other sports.

  3. Not so many people boxes in other countries, but there are a lot people playing basketball in other places, thus the NBA players also play in the Olympics.

  4. Cause the IOC sucks. There will never be golf because golf is a game not a sport. Why are they taking baseball and softball out? If there is no baseball, there better not be golf.
