Question:

Why can you push scissors into a balloon yet it doesn't burst?

this obviously is a science based question.. please help me before 8th May!

  1. The scissors were most likely pushed thru near the top or the bottom of the ballon where it was tied off.  The reason the balloon does not burst when the scissors are pushed thru at these points is because the balloon is not streched as much at these two points as it is over the rest of the surface of the balloon (meaning the molecules are under much less stress at these points).  If you look at an inflated balloon.  The top and bottom usually appear to be darker in appearance this is because the molcules in the balloon at spaced closer together.  

    This is an old magicians trick where the magician pushes a long needle thru the bottom of the balloon and pulls it out then throws the balloon up in the air and pokes the side of the balloon with the needle and pops the balloon.


  2. It doesn't burst because you didn't blow it up first.
