in a recent interview he said that cotto aint a big draw and oscar is thats why hes fighting oscar again. ok thats cool he can fight oscar again but cotto should be next.

if floyd thinks hes such a big draw why does he need help from his apponents for a big draw. oscar dont need help hatton and paquiao dont need opponents help neither. floyd is just full of S**t u agree?

  1. I've posted this elsewhere but you make a good point. Prior to Oscar De la Hoya's fight he wasn't a super draw like a DLH, Trinidad et al. Case in point :

Baldomir vs. Floyd- 325,000 PPV buys

Judah vs. PBF- 350,000 PPV buys

    Gatti vs. PBF-340,000 PPV Buys

    All average buys.

Now look at Oscar against a no name in Mayorga

Oscar vs. Mayorga- 850,000 ppv buys against a guy who was not a houshold name! Among boxing purists yes, but the casual fan had no idea who Mayorga was. They knew Oscar and that's all they needed to know. I make this point to now show you PBF's number's during/post Oscar:

Oscar vs. PBF- 1.4 million PPV buys

Hatton vs. PBF- 850,000 PPV buys

Floyd had the best opportunity to get exposure when he fought Oscar. After his fight with Oscar his exposure sky-rocketed. However, his upcoming fight with DLH is a no-buy for me. The first fight was a complete bore and I am not taking the bait this time! They expect us to buy into the uncle vs. father storyline! And why did they do this ? Because the last fight was a big disappointment. I don't care if they bring back Floyd's great-great grandfather to train Oscar I'm not buying it this Time!

  2. It takes years too really become a marquee name in boxing. You have too either be a Knockout fighter or a celebrated Olympian. Mayweather will all his talent and skill is neither some fighters make the Olympics win gold or silver and become these big stars we seen it with Amir Khan and Oscar Dela Hoya and Sugar Ray Leonard. Floyd wasn't really a popular amateur coming out of the 1996 Olympic games he was overshadowed by Fernando Vargas who had a way more exciting style and that's what the public wants.

Winky Wright was the same way guys like Floyd and Hopkins who are pure boxers never really become big stars. Muhammad Ali was one of the only pure boxers to really become a star and that's because of his personalty and publicity due to his draft situation.

Floyd also complained that he wasn't promoted efficiently during the time when Mayweather was a prospect Oscar was on Top Rank along with Floyd, he complained that Oscar was getting all the right fights and promotion and he was getting sidelined. Thats why Floyd has problems doing busnessiness with Bob Aurm.

Boxing has become such a bussiness in recent years its all about how you promote yourslef and the fights you get. People dont want too see pure boxers people want personallity, knockouts, great storys like the contender thats why Tyson was so popular.

In the last year he has become a lot more popular with mainstreem fans. He has really yet to face someone since Oscar that cant draw fans. The Oscar fight was what he needed to make him a marquee star thats why his other fights didnt sell they were either for ranking, money, belts. Once Floyd fights a guy like Cotto who isnt known for selling Tickets all the weight will be on him and well see who big he really is. We have too wait for that becasue people hate Mayweather so much that if he does fight a no name fighter to see how much he can sell alone everyone is going to compain about it not being Cotto anyway.

  3. you will only no if he is big draw if he was fighting lets say a cintron or williams and quintana and see how that does on the P .P .V buys ive seen at the hatton fight he didnt have  a big following... im sure he wont fight any of them names above. now anyway.

you get  alot sayin floyd gutless and chicken for not geting it on with cotto but he beats cotto all day  im sure of that.  floyds not may cup of tea but i no when i see somthing  like floyd ive never seen it before and would be stupid to say he  is not the best today the answer to that is easy he dont take shots and if you dont take shots then you dont lose. So he is the best so was jones he to was never a big draw..........   Maybe floyds heart is not init no more i dont no. is it he just wants the money id say that is more likely.  But i put this down to you why he is not fighting cotto.. im from the U K so you must no this in the  US..   That floyd has  filed a lawsuit against his former promoter BOB ARUM of top rank that he owes floyd money in matches against GATTI and ZAB JUDAH.

BOB ARUM is the promoter of COTTO

That im sure will not help  cotto or even get them going tho the motion with talks i dont no?  but dont think its happning any tim soon

  4. Lol, yeah right. No one would have cared about the Hatton fight if it wasn't for Mayweather. That's why Ricky Hatton's last fight was on some no-name channel that played infomercials all day, because no one cares about him. Mayweather wasn't a big draw before he beat Oscar De La Hoya, but now he is, because he's good at selling himself.

  6. His style isn't exciting. Mayweather tends to be a defensive, safety first type fighter. You can count all the "exciting" fights he's had on one hand. His most exciting fight is probably against N'Dou.

Mayweather needs guys like De La Hoya because he can't draw by himself. People just tune when he fights because they want to see him lose because of his big mouth, not because he's exciting like Arturo Gatti. It's better for him and his health, but he doesn't get the respect of the casual viewers.

  7. You just hit the nail right on the head. !!

he said the same thing about Margarito, but we all know  is just a smoke screen to avoid risky fights.

Floyd cannot draw attention because he does not know how. He is a good boxer with lagging communication skills. Floyd could not draw attention if he were to dress up like a chicken at dancing with the stars. He thinks he is the PPV king. The man does not get it. He is hard headed.

I am also losing respect for Oscar for taking such a stupid fight again and just going for the money. I remember Oscar saying he wanted to clean the sport of boxing, however he did not mention clean it from whom or what?
