Why can't I delete my old Facebook comments?

I made a comment on a friend's picture in Facebook. I deactivated and then shortly reactived my account. After reactivation, I could not delete my comments made prior to decactivation. Why would this occur? How can I fix this? It is through the same account. There is no "x" option next to the picture comments.
