Why cant I play my p3 online?

I am not using a router. I have a wired connection. The cable is good. I have Time Warner Cable Road Runner high speed Internet. I took the ps3 to my friends house and it accessed the web easily. At my house, it fails to find the ip address. Sony tells me the system is fine since it worked at my friends house, and Time Warner Cable says since the internet works on my pc, that its not the internet.

Any suggestions? I have spent hours on the phone with tech support with Sony and TWC, but it has not helped. They both blame it on the other one. Please, any help would be appreciated.

Check the settings. A hard line connection did not work for me either, but a wireless one did. I have no problems.
