Why cant I use my any of my brushes in photoshop?Help me please!

Everytime I click to use a brush.It says, Could not use history brush because the history state does not contain a corresponding layer.How do I fix this so I can use my brushes again?

Not to oversimplify here, but are you sure you're clicking on the actual Brush Tool (B), not the History Brush Tool (Y)?
