  1. Typical relief pitchers average about 70 appearance per season, with about that many innings as well.  There are 162 games in a season, so you would need at least 18 "closers" to get through a season.  With only 25 roster spots, you wouldn't be able to put position players on the field.

  2. closers can't pitch everyday...some even need more than one day off between appearances, though in reality most go as much as 3 games in a row...closers develop to work one inning, in some cases a little more...any more than that and they just aren't going to fare well...and doing it everyday is just as impossible as it would be for a starter to go everyday...

  3. Cause closers dont have the endurance to pitch that long, thats what starters r for and closers they r ment to be lights out cause they dont pitch alot and teams cant catch on to there pitching habits

  4. Probably because as it stands now there are only 30 actual closers in the game (one per team) and of those 30 you can only count on about 10 to give you a perfect inning every time so getting 9 reliable closers would be too hard. Aside from the fact that they wouldn't all be able to pitch every day.

  5. a baseball team can't because closers usually aren't the best pitchers but pitch best under pressure

  6. Because Closers are used to pitching in the the real tight ball games and usually get teams out of jams. If you stick them in a regular game and in a normal situation they would get rocked and they don't have the endurance to pitch long innings.

  7. wow.... i let other people say this

  8. ok im not even going to waste my time typing the answer when all these ppl summed it up

  9. Closers typically pitch 1-2 innings, if that. Having 9 closers, who take turns pitching in the game (if that's what you're asking) would make little sense, since they would no longer be closers anymore. A 'closer' would need to start the game, making him a starter. Then he would get relieved by a 'relief pitcher' or two until the last man, who actually is a closer, comes in.
