what is the difference if in America, we just called it a hurricane?

Arent typhoons cyclones and hurricanes the same?

We call tornadoes cyclones too right?

I saw a headline cyclone kills 22000. devastating..but would be more miraculous if that was a twister

  1. tornado's are smaller, but can be way more destructive

  2. typhoon sounds best out of all of them

  3. Well, we could institute some international law of the language, but beyond that I think you just have to understand some things from context. I think a boot is something you wear on your feet, but if you're from the UK it's part of a car.  In Boston they don't put ice cream in their milk shakes. I could go on and on but the thing is that the same language varies from country to country, or even within the same country. I actually think if you stopped that things would be less interesting.  Learn all the different meanings of cyclone (and it's more than these two) and I don't think you'll have any problem understanding which one people are talking about, I know I don't.
