"religion without science is blind"

"if people are good only because they fear punishment and hope for a reward then we are a very sorry lot indeed"

"Einstein distinguished three styles which are usually intermixed in actual religion. The first is motivated by fear and poor understanding of causality, and hence invents supernatural beings. The second is social and moral, motivated by desire for love and support. Einstein noted that both have an anthropomorphic concept of God. The third style, which Einstein deemed most mature, is motivated by a deep sense of awe and mystery. He said, "The individual feels … the sublimity and marvelous order which reveal themselves in nature … and he wants to experience the universe as a single significant whole." Einstein saw science as an antagonist of the first two styles of religion, but as a partner of the third style."

You cant really disagree with the "greatest scientist of the 20th century" now can you?

What do you think?

  1. *sigh* Typical atheist...you've even misquoted Einstein. What you missed in your first quote was the first half. The full quote is "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind...but putting the whole thing out there wouldn't have made your point anymore than quoting the Bible in context would.

Here's a couple more Einstein quotes for you:

My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble minds.

That deep emotional conviction of the presence of a superior reasoning power, which is revealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God... --

    Einstein, dated 18 April 1955

"In view of such harmony in the cosmos which I, with my limited human understanding, am able to recognize, there are yet people who say there is no God. But what really makes me angry is that they quote me for the support of such views."

Hey...You cant really disagree with the "greatest scientist of the 20th century" now can you?

  5. Einstein also said the more he studied the universe, the more he believed there was a divine God.

  6. He was a jew. Why should I being Catholic, listen to him.

By the way he was not the greatest scientist of the 20th century.  The greatest was and still is--

    Nicola Tesla.

  7. Honestly, argument from authority makes no sense in this context either...
