My family is very nice and they look after me well and haven't done anything horrible to me apart from tell me off when i've been naughty lol. But i cant be myself around them and i don't know why. My laugh is different when I'm around my family when i laugh it sounds like I'm tring to hold it in but when I'm around my friends I'm fine. I am more confident around my friends and I'm completely myself. I'm 15 and always have been like this. Why aren't I'm myself around my family?

  1. Hun i am 16 years old and ill be 17 in a month and i sometimes am like that too. A lot of it is because when youre around your friends its appropriate for you to act a certain way. There are things that you can do and say around them that you know you cant do and say around your family. I think thats what most of it is. Give it sometime and just work on trying to be yourself...but honestly dont feel like its a big deal, you are a teenager your going through things that your parents went through too.

    hope that helps. :]

  2. Sounds like you are afraid of displeasing your parents  so you  try to put on this big act around which must make you very tired . Try being yourself around them too and you might find they like you a lot more . Neven if it doesn't work out I'm sure you'll be much happier.

  3. You feel like you have to be on your best behavior when you are around your family... you fear their outlook on you... in a way and feel that you will be judged... like if your too loud or if your actions aren't proper in the manner they expect... when your are with your friends its always the exact opposite... we all let loose and have fun and sometimes act a little abnormal because our true selves stays so bottle up from being around our family... we get out and act like omg  crazy/good.

Don't worry to much about it.. this is what we have to do sometimes to survive this world... being who other people want us to be... you are really in control... look at it this way... we are tricking them in getting what we want... when your at church (if you go)you may be one way and when at school act another way and then at work another way and then with family...Waahhhaaaa!!!!

This is more common than you think:-)))

    I hope this helped:-)))

  4. Sometimes friends your own age group find you have a better sense of humor then your family, because you can't always relate to them on your own level.
