My parents wont let me get a learners permit, or even take drivers ed. The only reason they give is insurance. they said that drivers ed costs extra insurance, and she doesn't want to pay for my insurance! HELP! I can drive already, just no license, so its strictly emergency situations(medical, terrorists, etc) Please , is there any way for me to get my own insurance, or pay it myself(How much money would it cost) Thank you!

  1. I don't know how much the insurance costs but it is a ridiculous amount. The price goes up by atleast 50 %. Thats what my dad said.

  2. nothing short of fraud can do this since it is illegal for a company to enter into a legally binding contract with a minor.

  3. i thought by taking drivers ed your insurance rate goes down, but maybe im misunderstanding.

  4. Some High Schools charge a small fee for taking a Drivers Ed class.  Around here, I believe it's about $45.00.  But, by taking and passing that class, your parents will get a discount from their auto insurance company when they add you as a driver.

They should at least call their insurance company to find out what that cost will be before complaining that they can't afford it.  Perhaps you could get a part time job to help cover the cost.

The only way you can buy your own auto insurance, is if you had your own car.

If your parents allow you to drive without a drivers license, and you get pulled over by a cop, they can impound their car, and fine both of you.

    Either way, take the class.

    Best of luck!

  5. Sorry, but your parents are required to sign for you to get a permit. The insurance does increase with a younger driver on the policy. Just because you take drivers ed, there is still billing for the insurance. Perhaps you have not shown your parents any responsibility traits and that is the true reason.

  6. Age doesn't have anything to do with it your a minor and if they do not want to sign you can not make them.

  7. taking drivers ed lowers the cost of insurance for the person who took the class...aslo, good grades is a discount in most insurance companies, check those out. But i got my own car insurance at it costs 95 a month. It depends what car you have and what coverage you want
