Why cant i hear people in vent

Question

when people talk in vent i cant hear them i know my headsets plugged in because i can hear the chanel noises etc when i move channels or when i play music or w.e i know my pc is picking up the sound of people talking in vent because when i go into sound settings in vista i can see the speaker green things going up and down indicating that there is sound.... whats up ?

i recently upgraded to vista could that be the problem?

Try turning down the master volume as it sounds like you may overloading the sound card resulting in the distortion you are hearing.

Ummm, hmmm, try listening to the speakers rather than your vent.  

Yes, upgrading to Vista can be an issue if the software for your speakers isn't compatable for Vista.
