  1. The reason is the length of the clubs, the longer the club the harder it is to control.  Try and go for a lesson or a group lesson and the pro, that will help greatly, my mum was having the same problem but now she can hit driver about 160 yards.

    Good luck!

  2. If you have a set all by one company of golf clubs, the driver/wood will be longer than the irons. I reckon you've progressed well and gotten good on the irons and then you've gotten to the wood/driver and you are using the same stance and technique. You have to rethink you technique with different lengthed clubs. Try stepping back a bit

  3. Brandon is right. the longer the club, the less loft it has, and the harder it is to it solidly. If you notice, you probably hit your wedge slightly more solidly than your 9 and your 9 alittle better than your 7 and so on.

  4. the reason is club length. The swing pattern on your woods is different than on your irons. you are more likely to come out of the so called groove with the longer club which makes you leave the club face more open at impact. this is one of the things that cause a slice.

it could also be the shaft stiffness. if you are swinging to fast with a regular stiffness shaft you will get bad ball impact as well due to the fact the club head is not in the proper position due to the whippyness of the club

  5. That's a good start with your irons. When you go to hit your driver or three wood you might be having second thoughts of how you can hit it, try to feel the same way with the woods as what you do with the irons. Good Luck.

    Have a good one...

  6. club length and the angle the clubface makes with the vertical, these are the reasons why you hit a pitching wedge straight and well, consistently

  7. There could be a few reasons for this.  Length of clubs is one.  Both are longer than your longest iron.  Your swing shouldn't change from swinging an iron to swing driver or fairway wood.  You may be standing too close to the ball or too far away.  If you feel like you're reaching, you probably are.  Typically higher handicappers hit fairway woods better than driver because of the higher loft.  Consult a pro if you can't figure it out on your own.

  8. because your woods and your irons are totally different - namely the length and the obvious visual difference between the two, you need a different stance and swing when you hit your woods.  You should have a professional show you the difference on the driving range so you can practice it.

Just to give you an idea - when hitting a wood, the ball is typically more aligned towards the left(if you're a righty) and your swing is slightly flatter.  I find that my stance is a little bit wider compared to when I hitting with an iron.

If you try to figure it out on your own and just amateurly tweak your swing to MAKE it work for your driver and 3 wood, you may be forming incredibly bad habits that you really don't want. It's good that you can hit your irons perfectly because now you can move on to the next thing, your woods.  Good luck! hope to see you on the LPGA circuit soon.

  9. Hello Ma'Lady...

The closer you are to the ball the easier it is to hit it...

The key to hitting woods, is your ability to trust your swing...

You have a swing...the only difference is...there is a ball in the way of your swing...if you focus on your smooth swing and try not to"hit the ball" you will find a world of difference...

Trust in your ability...and when you get to that point in which, you are hitting the driver & 3 wood with pleased results...know that I will be happy for you...

    Peace
