  1. Not only scientists but all sorts of engineers, technicians, and service personnel live in Antarctica at least temporarily. It's against the law, internationally and under many national laws, simply to sail up and set up living arrangements. But it would be practically impossible, anyhow.

The US arrangement is that most projects are funded by NSF, and  the Navy provides most support services. The Australian Antarctic Division, headquartered in Hobart, runs most of their efforts. New Zealand, Italy, France, Argentina, Chile, Russia, and many other countries have bases here and there around Antarctica. The US has a South Pole base.

If you are a cosmetologist, I imagine the biggest bases like McMurdo Sound have a barber/beautician.

  2. If you want to get to Antarctica to help the animals, get an advanced scientific degree in zoology or marine biology and apply for a position at one of the science stations along the coast.  The penguins will do just fine for now, so you have time to accomplish this.

  3. You may go.

  4. Ownership's not the only form of land management.

It is a regulated scientific preserve governed by the Antarctic Treaty System (46 countries involved).  Think National Park but on a global scale.

You can live there more or less full time if you work there.  If not, well there's no reason for you to be in an inhospitable environment with no social order where goods and services would have to be shipped to you at the expense of others since you would have no viable means of trade.

there are several scientific centres in Antarctica which are manned permanently. They prove that it is quite possible to live there but they all rely on supplies delivered from other parts of the world. Temperature and lack of food are the two major hindrances to self contained survivial.

The continent is also the subject of a worldwide agreement that prevents colonisation of the area and exploiting resources found there. Even if people had the resources to live and survive there, permission would prove to be almost impossible to obtain.

In recent years, the agreement not to exploit the resources is coming under pressure. Groups are keen to explore the region for oil and minerals. There has been discussion between governments regarding exploration and is causing controversy.

my only answer for your problem though: become a scientist!

although, you can help by global warming by:

    EDIT:

    permission from the government

Can you cook?  They need cooks and there are probably other support jobs also.
