Why cant i make a rename a folder?

i have a vista home premium. after creating a new folder, i rename it and when i type enter, it says "the file or folder does not exist"

check you have a folder with that name you need to type

make the folder and leave it as "new folder"

then go back and rename it

my friend had this problem on a cracked version of vista.. he had to download a renamer.. flash i think
