  1. A marketing business has two applicants...One has a high school diploma, the other has a bachelors or a masters degree in marketing and business...Who Do you think they will hire?!

It is getting harder and harder to find jobs; especially ones that you don't need that much of a college background.  If you at least go to a community college and get an Associate Degree, that is better then a high school diploma.  And then later on, you can transfer those community college credits to a four year and two more years later you ahve a bachelors degree...You may be the lucky ones and find a decent paying job for awhile, but that new guy will come around with a better experience and better qualifications then you because he stuck in at college and now, he is taking your job or he is your boss...ouch!

  2. You can, in fact you can make more than some people with MBAs. The job market is like any other market, and while certain jobs like Doctors and Scientists will always be in demand, right now there's a surplus of corporate jobs, and a high demand for skilled workers.

You do not necessarily need to go to college, but if you apply for an apprenticeship to be an electrician or something you can make A GREAT living without the financial or academic stress of higher education.

However, if you expect to just graduate from high school and land a job at 70k a year....that's not gonna happen.

  3. Higher education would, at the very least, teach you to properly structure this question.

  4. You can, but it's not very likely you'll make a good living with no additional schooling after college - technical schools can train you in jobs that pay well, and don't require as much time as college.

  5. It's possible to make a good living and not go to college. It's just not likely that you will. Most jobs that you could potentially make a lot of money at require a degree.

You can start your own business. That doesn't require a degree. However, it takes a lot of money to start a business. Most businesses fail within the first year, and if you don't go to college you may not have the necessary skills to start a business in the first place.

  6. One exception to that is to be self-employed. However, the chances of having a successful business is very low these days, even amongst college-educated people.

My parents did not go to college, but they were immigrants and did not have the option of attending. They started off as dishwashers, then eventually started up a successful restaurant (after a lot of hard work). My parents continually express to me that I am very lucky to be able to go to college since I will never have to work as hard as they did and still get to their level of success.

So, yes, if you're persistent and very hard-working (and smart), you could potentially make a good living not going to college, but going to college will ultimately be better.

  8. You *can* make a good living without going to college, but just like you want to pick a good college and good major, if you don't want to go to college, you need to pick a field to focus on, or a trade. Because a lot of jobs out there pay c**p and have no future. If you want a good  job with a future, pick the appropriate path.

For some of those jobs, you may need some sort of additional training, and that training may be found at your local community college. But you could also do an apprenticeship program, or get trained on the job. But don't just pick any job. Pick a job with future potential. Pick a job that leads to a career.

Without college, you can do well at the US Postal Service, the US military, a delivery company (UPS, Fedex, DHL, etc.), as a truck driver, operating heavy machinery, working as a clerk in a hospital, working as an office admin, working in retail management, working in food service management. If you're a driven individual, you can do well without college. Just pick a path that fits you well, and really push to do well there. And if you do ever get to a point where they're holding you back for lack of a degree, don't let them. Go to community college and get it.

There are also jobs/careers that are in demand, that pay well, and which require less than an associates degree to get. In fact, for some of these, all you need is an apprenticeship, but because those can be hard to get, you can *also* do the training at your local community college. These include:

    - Automotive tech

    - Diesel tech (which actually takes less training and pays better than auto tech)

    - Plumbing

    - Electrician

    - HVAC

    - and then there are jobs that are in high demand in certain areas of the US, such as welding, CNC machinist, etc.

And once you compelete the apprenticeship as a plumber or electrician, you may well be making more $$$ than most college grads. These trades are not to be dismissed.
