Why cant i play a dvd r that i had burned off the computer in my dvd player but it will play on the computer?

  1. Hi Tim,

    You have to finalize the DVD in your computer before it will play on another player.

    Not knowing what software you burned it with I can't give you specific instructions but put the DVD back in your computer, open the copy program and look for "finalize".

  2. Depends mostly on two things:

    1) Format - All standalone DVD players can play the DVD format.  Some can play other formats too, like MPG, AVI, DIVX, etc.  If you have a DVD player that can only play the DVD format, and you have some other format on your DVD-R, then it will not play

    2) Media - Your DVD player may not be compatible will all DVD media (blank DVDs).  This is likely if the DVD player is older and/or if the media is a really cheap brand.

  3. your dvd player doesn"t support the format you burnt the disc in.

    Some older dvd players are temperamental.Also some cheaper ones won"t play odd formats. My DVD player in my car sometimes has a hard time with burnt disks
