Why cant i record tv programs with my dvd recorder?

I have my dvd/vcr recorder/player hooked up to my t.v. when i put a blank disc in and hit record it just records a blank image with no sound. I also tried to hook it up to my cable box, but i cant even figure out how to watch it when it's hooked to the cable box. it's sort of stressing my out, because I bought it to record my fav. tv shows and im finding out im electronicly illiterate. can anyone help me:(

  1. There are too many variables for someone to give you the right answer.  Plus the diagram in your manual is easier to read.  But to put it simply:

    1 Your cable that comes into the house goes to the cable box

    2 The "out" from the cable box goes to the "in" on the DVD recorder

    3 The "out" from the DVD recorder goes to the TV.

    Then you have to put your DVD recorder on ch 3.  With this setup you will change channels with the cable box and you can only record whatever you are watching.  There are other ways to do it as well, but that is the simplest.


  2. you probably just did it wrong, try it again, and if it doesn't work, look at the users manual, if that doesn't work, call the company. if that doesn't work, well... i can't help you there.
