Why cant i save ANYTHING as jpeg's???

Question

Ive recently rebooted my windows vista and during installing i select no automatic updates so i start fresh and now after installing photoshop i can never save images as jpeg's, it dosnt even give me the option and even saving images from the internet they have to get saved as giffs or bitmaps?!!!!!!!!!

Try "Save for Web" (depending on the PS version you use, the option might be named a bit differently) and see whether or not you can save as JPEG from there (hopefully you'll get the hang about how to do it). If you can from there, then the image mode(s) you use are not JPEG-compatible by default, so a conversion must be applied (which is what the "Save for Web" does). If not, then you have a more serious problem which should be addressed to the crew at Adobe.

Can you type .jpg after the file name when saving. This should work.

Example, type   mynewcar.jpg   not just mynewcar when saving the pic.

Try using the Save For Web and Devices function. File > Save for web  and devices. It lets you save as JPG there. I use it =]

And the purple background and stuffs are because you've renamed the bitmap.
