  1. The more time the better as mentioned before but to help you along keep your center of gravity low(knees bent), be in the middle of the board and don't look down look forward, where you are heading.

    Have Fun

  2. You kinda have to put a kick in it. Its not as easy as it seems and its nothing like a simple lean like skateboarding.

Well one hour once a week isnt enough. The only way to get good at something is by practice. Practice doesnt make perfect but it can make you hella good

  3. Foamie is your first problem, get a real surfboard. Foamies are very unresponsiuve due to the plush factor.

Turning is a delicate teqnique requiring a feel for a surfboard. The big thing is turn with your rails, but how much depends on speed. Just push your toes or heels down or up a little and you'll start turning, then learn to lean into it more. Then start going sideways in powerful cuts, running your extended hand out skimming the water.

  4. Try going to a surf school.  You need someone else's well-versed eye to progress.  They can see what you can't.

And one hour a week isn't enough.  Think about it.  You sit in the line-up about 50-80% of the time.  That's less than 30 minutes of actual surfing when you factor in the time it takes to paddle out.

You may be surfing at the wrong time if the waves are the wrong shape for your board.  Most softboards have soft fins as well.  These flex when you try to turn making the board spinout.  You may also be distributing your weight wrong on the board.  You never mentioned how long your board is, but I'm assuming it's over 7 feet.  You don't want to lean back much, but you do want your back foot closer to the fins as that's where you'll get the pivot point to turn the board.  You do want to lean a bit, but you may be pushing it too hard.  Take it slow as that's what a long board has to do.

Wherever your shoulders are squared towards helps you turn that way.  As in any sport, you want to look where you want to go.

  5. like some 1 said b4, an hour isnt enough.... stay out for atleast 5hrs a week if the surfs good enough.

As For the Turning Im Guessing you want To Go Along the Face? If so, On Take Off, paddle on a slight angle so your almost paddling along the wave but not quite. that way when u pop up u can easily lean slightly and your on the face.

As For turing for reo's snaps n other manouvers its more complicated.... considering ur using a foam board i wont really bother with that. But u need to get good balance so when u lean u dont fall off.... Just Practice ;)
