  1. I say you can get the cat checked out, or try what my parents did.  My cat is getting old and she does the same thing, when we say her name, she doesn't even perk up her ears.  Worrying that she was getting deaf, we decided to go in the other room and grab one of their cans of cat food (a treat for them) and run the can opener.  Not only did she hear it, but she came running because she wanted her treat.  My cat's not deaf, she just doesn't care enough to pay attention to us.  She hears us, she's just a cat that thinks she's better than us (like most cats).  Try going in the other room and opening one of her treats (or something that she usually reacts to) and see if she comes.  If not, take her to the vet.

  2. Thats strange

Maybe shes deaf or has a hearing problem

Have you tried whistling? I know it sounds cruel but cats ears are super sensitive and a great way to check if they are deaf is to whistle.

  3. CATS ARE LIKE THAT...

I have one the I will call frantically because it is getting dark and she will be sitting close by JUST LOOKING AT ME.

Clap your hands and see if she turns ... could be she is deaf... or just acting like a cat.

    good luck

  4. Your cat hears you fine.  You just haven't asked a question she feel deserves an answer.  lol

  5. Cats are not like dogs..........they WILL IGNORE you most of the time!  If you're really concerned about her hearing, try a "noise test".  Go where you can see her, but she CANNOT SEE you.  Take a can, put some rocks, marbles, coins, etc into it, then SHAKE it really HARD! If she can hear, she'll look for the noise.....twitch her ears.....etc.

If she cannot hear, she won't react at all.  Then, you should have her ears checked by a vet.  She may indeed be deaf!  Deaf cats can live healthy, happy lives for a long time.  YOU just have to adjust for the deafness. You may have to learn to STOMP on the floor to get her attention.

I have cats that you'd think were deaf, but I know they're not.  They just like to lie in plain sight, while I call and call, and they don't even raise their heads!  Then if the can opener makes a noise, they all come running!  See.........another "noise test"!!

Good luck.  Hope she's ok, and is just ignoring you!

  6. cats can just be that stubborn or it can be deaf.  that does happen

  7. Did she always know her name? Does she react to other sounds, like loud or sudden noises?

My cat doesn't usually turn when I say his name, and he's only a couple years old now. So maybe it takes some time for them to learn? Though I'm also not sure if they are the types of animals that respond to their names. They could, but I don't really know.

And if your cat doesn't react to other noises then, well, obviously you should ask your vet about it.

  8. Is he perhaps deaf?

  9. She could be deaf.  Or, she just doesn't care.

  10. if she is not too old then she will take time to recognize her name

jst keep on calling her with the same name 1 day she will definitely  give you response

  11. Cats can be ignorant like that, but it's best to get the Vet to check out her ear canals, and maybe do a hearing test, any age of Cat can be deaf, not just old.

  12. My cat ignores me too. Your should try a test and see if she is deaf. Go get an empty can full of coins and shake it, see if she moves.

  13. Cats are good at ignoring you, but if this is new taking her to the vet is a good idea.  Cats, like humans and other animals, get wax build up in their ears.  Outdoor cats have a particular problem with this as dust and dirt add to the build up.  It would be a good idea to take her to the vet so they could check her ears for this build up too.

  14. Well how long have you had the cat?  If it's a baby or young kitten, it may not know it's own name.  It takes time for an animal to hear a word and figure out what it correlates to.  If you think this is the case, go up to it every now and again and say its name over and over again to its face.  Look at it, point at it, and make it notice that when you said that word (name), it means the itself, the cat.

The other thing is it could just not be really noticing of it.  Sometimes cats get lazy and don't have to turn to look at you when you call its name.  Your a human, you do the same thing.  You don't have to look when someone calls your name.

Your cat could be deaf.  They don't have to be old.  Sometimes the ear drums just reach a point where a sound it too powerful and literally blows them out, making you hearing impaired.  Also, sometimes they just fail on us.  My cat is deaf, still a dear, just we can't call her, we gotta go find her when we need her.

    Good luck!
