  1. I haven't heard that but I'd guess it's because of the artificial sweetner which is called splenda. It may cause birth defects or just have a strange reaction in the mother.

  2. The same reason they should'nt smoke crystal meth, it's bad for you.

Basically aspartame creates birth defects when consumed in huge amounts on lab rats.

  4. Scroll down to aspartame.

  5. Crystal light contains artificial sweeteners, most of the packages I've seen contain aspartame (also known as NutraSweet), but some contain sucralose (also known as Splenda).

Drinking crystal light during pregnancy shouldn't be any better/worse than drinking diet soda during pregnancy.  Artificial sweeteners have a different effect on different people - some are particularly sensitive to one type.  There have been various studies showing the dangers of different artificial sweeteners (several people have linked to them already).

Personally, I try to avoid anything that requires a warning on the packaging.  Pick up any product containing aspartame and you'll notice, in bold, at the bottom of the ingredient list: "phenylketonurics: contains phenylalanine"
