If car's tyres are supplemented with a parallel steel tyre exactly as broad as a railway track i think people should be able to drive on railway tracks.

Changing tracks might be problematic so i would sugget a WI-FI based navigation solution to avoid collisions and to steer the vehicle. Driving would be as easy as pressing a few buttons and sleeping off. There would be great savings in fuel....

Anybody to co-author patent application?? ha ha ha

Does such a thing as private vehicles running on public railway tracks exist?

  1. Your Idea is good.

Repair service company have an attachment to attache to any vehicle(within limits), and then the vehical can use the track.

Now as far as any one and evry one using the tracks for travel will creat very hazadous situation. Tracks come under what is known as right of way agreements, and there are whole bunch of law that apply.  In a nut shell if theese agrements are violeted then the original land owner wil be getting the land back, and no one but the owner can then use the land.

  2. No meacause all use of rails are regulated and carefully scheduled. Also because your car - regaurdless of it's wheels) would be crushed like a tin can against a frat boy's head against ANY locomotive.

  3. Haha, that's quite clever, mechanically there is absolutely no reason, in fact hy-rail systems have been in place on railroad work trucks and inspection vehicles for decades.

You are probably a hundred years too late in your idea.

Changing tracks is not in the least problematic, they use the exact same system of movable track switches that trains use.

A wi-fi system is not workable though, it takes a very sophisticated system of on track sensors to tell exactly where a train is, satellite navigation is not accurate enough, for instance it can't with any degree of accuracy tell if a train is on one track or the adjoining track 8 feet away.

However, operationally is a completely different story, you cant just get off the rail whenever a train comes along, you have to go to a crossing.

The idea is totally not workable, capacity is already stressed in most rail lines, you honestly think they would stop or slow train so you can go tootling around in your personal automobile??

    Railroad tracks are private property.

  4. It happned in the early days of the railways in the UK, particuarly on the Stockton and Darlington Railway, The well-to-do were able to stop trains and have their road carriages but on a railway truck. This caused such chaos that the scheme was quickly abandoned.

Your idea, is frankly daft. What happens on a single track when two idiots are driving at 60 mph in opposite directions?

  5. r u mad?  why u asking this stupid q.
