  1. No, it has to do with the fact that AIDS attacks the Immune System in particular Helper T-Cells.  AIDS is a also a virus which mutates and evolves over time.


  2. The virus is a very resilient organism.  It is constantly mutating, changing its structure.  The virus that started it all back in the 70's and 80's has changed so much that there are now many different strains.  

    Progress is being made.  Its no longer a death sentence when diagnosed.  People are living longer and more productive lives.
