Why cant they track done a molester in a chat room.?

police are trying to,he molested family member6 yrs ago, and i found him in this one chat room.she was only 8 yrs old.

How do you know if the person is a molester? It's hard to molest someone online. And people say a lot of stuff online too. It could just be a troll.

They need proof the person is a molester and they need the person's IP address to report to the police. If they don't have either, they can't do anything. If they have proof the person has commited a crime, but that person has a rolling IP address / proxy, then it's harder to find them.
