  1. its a contact by which voltage and current is passed on to a moving router.

  2. carbon is used for it,s conductivity and for it,s wear characteristic,s......a harder material would cause increased wear to the commutator........there are some instance,s where a soft copper compound is used.

  3. For an electric motor or generator to function, the coils of the rotor must be connected to complete an electrical circuit. To accomplish this, (copper or brass) 'slip rings' are affixed to the shaft, and springs press braided copper wire 'brushes' onto the rings which conduct the current. Later, these copper wire brushes were replaced with carbon blocks; but these blocks are still called brushes.

Carbon brushes are used to transfer electrical current in direct current motors by acting as the rubbing contacts for electrical connectors in the motors.

  4. Carbon Brushes are used in motors to pass voltage to rotor.
