  1. otherwise the hot copper will react with the iron in the vessel and oxidise it since it is more reactive than iron.


  2. it is done bcoz

    remaning ferrous sulphide oxidizes

    2FeS + 3O2 ------------ 2FeO + 2SiO2

    sillica(SiO2) combines with this FeO left in the Matte to form FeSiO3(ferrous slag)

    FeO + SiO2 ------------ FeSiO3

  3. Copper matte contains small amount of FeO as impurity which is removed as FeSiO3 slage when reacts with silica.

        FeO  +  SiO2   ----->   FeSiO3  (slage)
