Why could a large increase in plant growth lead to animal extinction?

  1. when there are lots of Plant A, there are lots of Animal Z which feeds on Plant A. Animal Z also feeds on Animal X and too many Animal Z's running around will lead to the extinction of Animal X

    i can't really explain it otherwise
