Could it be the Float? The seal that connects to the air flow where the filter goes? I know it is not the line. It starts great but will not stay so gas must be getting cut off and just dripps from that area.

  1. My B&S mower leaked from a very inconspicuous crack in the carberator!  %The float chamber did take in the fuel, but it leaked once the fuel was taken into the carb on the manifold.

The diagnostics to determine this fault was purely by happenstance as I was "lucky enough" to see this crack seperation when I took apart my entire engine.

  2. You describe a very common problem with Briggs engines.

The needle valve that regulates the amount of fuel in the carburetor is stuck open or just leaking. Have the carburetor throughly cleaned and install a rebuild kit, your problem will "Dry up!"

  3. Seal is broke, rotted or just gone from around the bowl.

Could be the fuel line also.

    Float can be sticking.

  4. Probably a leaky manifold gasket.

Something you should know, the ethanol that they put in the gas these days is bad for small engines.  It will harden and crack a rubber or plastic gasket if the gas is left standing for a while, which is exactly what a small engine does.

  5. The other answers are all goods ones to check Some small engines have a prime bulb to press a few times to prime engine. These can become brittle and crack. look for a small hair line crack in the plastic thumb pump. the thumb pump bowl will empty out and start pulling air and the engine stops.

  6. sounds like its flooding could be the float or u got the choke on. Its getting too much gas either way. carb could need adjusting
