Question:

Why could my Caravan be running so terrible?

I have a 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.0L V6 and just replaced a blown head gasket on one side. It was running absolutely quiet, and smooth before all this happened. I put it all back together, and forgot to mark the rotor for timing. My Father in Lawn and Brother in law helped to get it all set right again. Finding the only position it would start up and run. But the thing Skips like mad at idle and low rpms. The best way I could describe it is if you took off two spark plug wires. I checked all for spark from distributor cap, all checked out ok, but seems weak, due to the orange color spark not blue. But still it ran like a top before. What do you think could be causing this problem?

  1. It seems like a timing issue, bring it up to TDC top dead center and check the position of the rotor cap is pointed at #1 plug wire.

  2. Did you find TDC on your number 1 cylinder? Is the plug wires in the correct firing order? Are all your grounds reconnected?

  3. beside the ones working on it... its out of time job wasnt done right....check your timing

  4. I would try and hook a timing light up to it it possible. Make sure it is a misfire on the ignition side and not a possible fuel delivery problem. Easiest way to check that is to check fuel pressure at the fuel rail. You make want to have the computer scanned for codes stored in the PCM. This will give you a better chance of solving the problem.
