Question:

Why could my kitten have diarrhoea?

Not proper liquid diarrhoea, but very soft sludgey stools. And still the usual amount - two or three a day - and always in the right place.

He is nine weeks old and we've only had him five days. The soft stools started yesterday. He still seems healthy, is playing, eating and sleeping properly, and is bright-eyed and shiny-coated. We haven't changed his diet although we may be feeding him a little more wet food than he used to have.

Do I have anything to worry about? It doesn't seem worth taking him to the vet over as he still seems well and happy, but we're going on Monday anyway for his jabs so I'll ask the vet then if it's still happening.

Does anyone know what might be causing it?

  1. Most likely the food. Try giving it Kitten food rather than food for an older cat. Ask your Vet.

  2. the type of food you are giving it. or worms

  3. Wet food can give cats or dogs Diarrhea.

  4. think its prob over eating or to mcuh milk if u given him that, maybe he eaten something he shudnt or food to warm or cold , and if goign to vets monday would wait if nothing bothering, u wud no if ur kitten was unwell wudnt eat, play etc , but if he seems ok then wait it out till monday.

  5. Whatever you're feeding him, don't give him milk or anything really rich. It upsets their little tummies. Mine had the same problem when i first gone mine in June. I gave him Whiskies Wet food and he loved it and scarfed it down, then had diarrhea because it was a HUGE change in diet from dry food. Don't switch it's diet too quickly or drastically. Worms is another possibility
