Why couldn't they do more to save that poor baby whale?

That story broke my heart. The mom whale abandoned him and he thought that the boat was his mother. They tried to get other mom whales to adopt him and failed so they killed him.

In this day and age, it seems like they could have came up with a big bottle or something, right?

not only would it have cost way too much money, how do you then rehabilitate a whale to fend for itself? i don't believe they should have put it down, i think nature should have taken it's course like it would have without human interference. that whale would have dies anyway and there are many other animals in the sea that would have fed on it. this happens to animals everyday only this one was on the news. We don't go out of our way to help an abandoned antelope in case a lion comes by!

Wow they killed him? Thats terrible. I heard about it but thats just terrible. I don't know what answer your looking for but, I guess they couldn't save it because they didn't want to..sad..

Well, it happened quite close to where i live and i think they actually did the only humane option. The whale was in an inane amount of pain so they put it down. There were many experts involved in the decision and although i must admit that i agreed with you in the beginning in the end i just acknolwedged that they had thought it through quite well and that it was far better to just stop the pain. But i know what you mean.

its so horrible what hey did to him. theyre always going on about saving the rainforest and the whales and stuff like that, yet they kill a poor innocent whale.

if they'd have just sailed the boat back to shore, then the waters would be to shallow for it to swim in so it would have gone away.

It's just not the same, whale babies arn't easy to look after. I think they made the right choice.. but it was sad :'(

It's better to let it rest in peace than suffer through the fin injury, breathing difficulties and no mother to take care of him.

it was dying a slow painful death.

it was putting it out of its misery and it would have been killed by other animals anyway.

So the press informed you. But in reality they are letting off depth charges and testing weapons far out to sea and the resulting sonic pulses are throwing these creatures off course and messing with their sonar.

awww, I wanna squeezy cuddle you for being so cute! Sweet heart, you can find a lot more engagingly depressing things then that if you go and look for them. The whale would have eventually died without a mother.

The truth is, whales die - including baby whales. People should stop interfering with nature and allow the animal to live or die as nature intended. the fact that the mother left the calf is an indication that there might have been issues with the calf that would cause it to die. Many rejections of young animals are related to physical defects that are often not discovered until after the animal is dead. Death is a part of life even for one so young.
