Why couldnt i have my jabs done whilst on antibiotics?

im currently taking 500mg amoxicillin tablets to fight an ear infection, and have been on them for around a week now. anyway, at my school, my entire year had to have out diptheria, polio and tetanus jabs done. when asked if i was on any medication, i told them about the antibiotics and then i wasnt allowed my jab.

does anyone know why exactly??

  1. Because they're foolish. You should have been allowed them. There are a few situations in which the ill or those on medication shouldn't receive immunizations. Yours isn't one of them, but they don't have the expertise to delineate the very few cases who shouldn't have the shots, so they have an overly broad rule excluding many of those who should get them.

    It's been my experience that the group most responsible for underimmunization in my state is the state health department, who operate under similar rules.


  2. The antibiotics may prevent your body from effectively producing antibodies by neutralising the jab, and the jab will be worthless then. Or there may be an interaction between the antibiotics and the jab, which may make things worse.
