  1. Because although it has a polarity, it has no direction, other that that of the wire it is in.

  2. Scalar is a quantity that has a magnitude but no direction.

    It is also any physical quantity with a field that can be described by a single numerical value at each point in space.

    Both of these definitions apply to electric current.

    Note - it does NOT apply to water current!
