Why demean the truth?

Many papers have suggested giving titles to our winning athletes, and suggesting they are all heroes.

Why have we demeaned the meaning of words. I,m talking about calling the Olympic athletes heroes, and giving titles to all and sundry. Athletes have one thing in mind when they go into athletics, the glorification of oneself in doing their best by winning. I was always taught a hero was someone who gave of themselves through danger to help others, not by running, cycling, swimming or sailing faster than the next person. Ok they did well, but surely the winning of a medal should be more than enough compensation, and many will be gaining more wealth than they could have imagined.

I am sure there are many people who will deride my sentiments, but I am also sure many will agree.

hereoes is a word used to describe personal achievements for a few years now.I have heard some of the winning athletes claiming they dont consider themselves hereos-its just the media as always who give these titles.

More important is the spirit and commitment in which the athletes won-not so much the titles they are given afterwards.

Presuming your from the UK as I am.

OK so maybe they aren't hero's in the literally accepted meaning of the word but not to take away their achievements.

They not only did it for their own glorification but for their country. I think its fair to say many were bursting with pride when accepting their medals to the tune of their national anthem.

If it makes them and their  country fellows proud and patriotic then whats wrong with that.?

We need to take pride in our achievements, it take dedication and such hard work.

YES our winning athletes are hero,coz our country was in danger in terms of olympic sports.

Our hero saved our country from being targeted in terms of humilition,laughing stock,scarcastic remarks and mockery from other countries.

Hey,if you think that heroes are only that saves from danger,then our winning athletes saved us from disrespectful thoughts and remarks from other countries.

Growup! and expand the horizon of defination of heroes.(One that bring happiness in life ans save one from gloomy life, can also be heroes for some,it is not necessary to be saved from falling into a bullshit hole.)
