I have a 2007 Subaru Legacy wagon that I bought last summer. I am very happy with it but last night the battery was just stone dead. My husband charged it and it started right up. i haven't tried it this AM yet but what could draw on the battery like that? I wouldn't think a battery that new would do that and do I have to worry about getting stranded somewhere if I go out in it?

  1. 12 months? Most car batteries last for 5 or 6 years. The warrantys are usually 3 to 5 years.

Even a bad battery wouldn't go from charged to stone dead overnight unless something was drawing on it. A good battery would run anything but headlights all night.

The first thing to do is check the voltage with the engine running. If it's not close to 14 volts, the alternator is bad.

  2. Most car batteries usually have a life span of 12 months... you would be a lucky person if it lasts longer than this time. check the manufacturer of the battery for estimated life of the battery but usually you will find that they recommend that you replace them yearly.

  3. could be a short of some kind. or the alternator is not working (but there should be a warning light)  have the dealer or an auto electric place check it out. It could be a bad battery .. it should be under warranty.  If Keely is replacing the battery every year then ??  I get 4 to 8 years service from a battery.

    but sometimes they are defective.

  4. Well honestly it could have died for a million different reasons. An interior light could have been left on, headlights left on, or there could be a open current in your electrical system. A battery on a 07 vehicle is not just going to die with out a reason. Most batteries in vehicles are rated for at least 5 years and in some cases you can get them on up to 7 years now. I would take a look and see if a light was bumped or something.
